M. S. Brown, having intimated to me that the works connected with the Gap-Rock Lighthouse were sufficiently advanced for the foundation stone to be laid, I proceeded to the Rock on the 1st instant with a small party to perform the ceremony.
2. I enclose an account of the proceedings as reported by the local press in which Your Lordship will find mentioned most of the particulars connected with this work.
Encl: Septor. 11/1890. 588
3. Mr. Brown informs me that, barring unforeseen accidents such as continued unpropitious weather etc., he has reason to believe that the cost of the Lighthouse will be within the revised estimate of $150,000, and that he trusts the works will be completed towards the end of next year or early in the year following.
